Just who is drinking all that tea?
Today I was curious as to how many people in the world drink tea. So, I googled it! After reading a few different articles on this I found some different conclusions.
I already knew that tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, obviously water being number one. So, one can conclude that the number of people in the world that drink water is equal to the number of people in the world. Yep I’m a genius. Anyway, back to the number of people in the world that drink tea.
One article that I read on the “English Tea Store Blog”, put the number at about 2 billion people. I believe they got the statistic from a site called Statistic Brain. Well I couldn’t take their word for it, so I started to read some more articles.
Another article stated that millions, if not billions, of people around the world start their days with a nice hot cup of tea.
So, I still don’t think I have a number that I can really be sure of. Reading on…another article that I read said that Over 158 million Americans will drink tea on any given day.
Still haven’t found what I’m looking for. It turns out I can’t find anything that tells me just how many people in the world drink tea.
But I did find a lot of other statistics on tea consumption. Mostly based on volumes and volumes by countries. I guess if I were good at math I could figure the number of people that is. But I’m not so I won’t.
We will look at it another way.
It seems that just about everyone agrees that 80% of homes have some form of tea that can be found in them. That was pretty much agreed on by all. Also, everyone pretty much agreed that the world consumed about 2.9 million tons of tea in 2017. That number is expected to reach 3.2 tons by the year 2020.
So, I am just going to go with, there are millions of tons of tea that billions of tea drinkers consume each year. Let’s just say that no matter which way you look at at it. THAT’S A LOT!!
See ya next week!
